Meeting Activities/News

As this is a social and business meeting can we start our meeting promptly at 7:00pm.

Each of us gets our own meal from Helen’s kitchen, taking their own meal & drinks to our usual reserved meeting room.

Our guest speaker is Michael Hudson winemaker from Savannah Wines, arranged for us by Nino Sanzari. Michael will field questions from us after his general talk on better wine making.

Brendan Bradstreet may have a practical solution to sourcing chemicals for the Vinmetrica sulphur tester.

General

Raffle

November raffle was won by Andrew Frangeskos.

Last Meeting Activity

We did a group scoring activity using our judges wine scoring sheet. The wine was purchased by Aldo Gortan from a sub tropical micro climate area just south of Coffs Harbour at Raleigh Winery, using fungal resistant grapes. The wine was made from Villard Blanc grapes.

As a group we were validating with very similar scores, despite our different wine making abilities. This shows that as a group we are able to judge a wine with a high degree of accuracy. Well done guys.

Club Rivers Wine Appreciation Club

At their 9th of November meeting, we show cased our award winning wines from our Annual Wine Show. They appeared to be very happy to sip our special efforts as well as discussing the wines in question with the actual wine maker. They want us back next year and keep this event as a regular activity.

Special thanks to Chris Nikolovski for organizing the wines, the wine makers as well as the special tags identifying each wine.

Mini-Competition

The November 2011 Mini Comp was Orange Wine Sweet

The winner was Luigi Petrini and Joe Camarda came second.

Next Meeting:

Thursday 1ST December 2011

There will be NO Mini Competition for December.

Instead we will have a combined function of a guest speaker Michael Hudson winemaker from Savannah Wines together with our Christmas End of Year Party.

Each member can to purchase their own meal from Helen’s Kitchen with refreshments from the bar.

As this is a part business/social meeting with a talk and question time from the winemaker than it may not be appropriate to invite your respective partners.

Next year we will have to schedule a proper fun night only end of year party.

Next Year 2012

Our first field trip will be to Tamburlaine to be shown how to measure acidity and sulphur and any other tests that Grant can do for us in our allocated two hours of his time.

At this stage it will probably be either the 8th or 15th January 2012.

We can meet at a central location e.g. at Rogers at Concord and then share cars to get to the winery, passengers to donate petrol monies to the car owners

Will send you all an email, in the first week of January confirming dates etc.

Our first formal meeting is on the 9/2/2012 at club Rivers

The mini comp is “Award Fruit – Mandarin”

We to discuss the Passion fruit mini comp for May

Frank Arlotta of Merilux Paint & Paper our major & only sponsor will hopefully be at our February meeting, to introduce himself, tell us about his wine business, see how we do at our meeting and announce a new additional sponsor prize for a single grape variety.

 Happy Wine Making,

A Merry Christmas & A Prosperous New Year

Robert Fedrigo,

 SAWC  President/Secretary
